South County Community Action Agency has openings for 14 to 24 year olds who would like to spend the summer exploring career opportunities, getting work experience, and earning money in the process. Two distinct programs, funded by the Workforce Partnership of Greater RI, begin in the second week of July and run for six weeks.
The first program is for 14 and 15 year olds. It offers six weeks of job readiness skills development, workplace tours, and career exploration activities as well as fun field trips each week. The participants receive $250 at the end of the program. There are no income guidelines for this program.
The second program is for 16-24 year olds and there are eligibility requirements based on family income. Participants are paid minimum wage while working four days a week and attending classroom-based job readiness training one day a week.
In both programs, participants will learn the skills necessary for future success in high-growth industries such as health care, finance, construction, marine trades, information, hospitality and green technologies.
The program is open to 110 students living in Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, New Shoreham, North Kingstown, Richmond, South Kingstown, Westerly or West Greenwich.
