The South County Community Action Agency, a private non-profit corporation, has provided a wide variety of social services to the economically disadvantaged residents of Washington County and West Greenwich Rhode Island since its establishment during the Johnson Administration’s “War on Poverty” in 1964. The majority of programs operated by South County Community Action serve the residents in the Towns of Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, New Shoreham, North Kingstown, Richmond, South Kingstown, Westerly and West Greenwich; however, the Agency does provide limited services throughout the State of Rhode Island.
The South County Community Action Agency has an annual budget of $5 million and employs over 60 staff for a variety of positions in varying fields. The Agency’s mission is to assist economically disadvantaged community residents transition out of poverty and into social and economic self-sufficient. South County Community Action Agency assisted more than 10,000 people last year.
