The South County Community Action Head Start Program serves children and families from Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, New Shoreham, North Kingstown, Richmond, South Kingstown and Westerly. Head Start offers early childhood education, social services/case management, support for children with special needs, support for children with mental health needs, health and safety education, nutrition assessment and counseling, literacy skills training for parents, opportunities for family engagement, parent education, and transition coordination.
Head Start offers center-based services to children ages 3-5 years. Children attend the center 3, 4 or 5 days per week. Classroom instruction is guided by a research-based curriculum, Creative Curriculum, as well as the Rhode Island Early Learning Standards. Classrooms are located in South Kingstown, North Kingstown, Charlestown and Westerly.

Early childhood care and education for infants and children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Our center is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families and the RI Department of Education. JLCA operates year round from 6:30am to 6:00pm and accepts RI Dept. of Human Services Child Care Assistance payments.

A comprehensive program of care involving multiple partnerships throughout Washington and Kent Counties designated to assist families who are at risk of DCYF involvement. Services vary from single need, such as energy assistance or parent skills training, to intensive multi-service care plans. Plans are designed by case workers and family members to ensure a client-focused choice in the services delivered. Children may be referred from DCYF Child Protective Services; children at risk for child abuse, neglect or DCYF intervention; children birth to age 18 with serious emotional disturbances; children leaving temporary community placement; children at risk of foster placement; children at-risk or involved with Juvenile Justice.

The goals of the program are to:
- Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve parenting practices
- Provide early detection of developmental delays and health issues
- Prevent child abuse and neglect
- Increase children's school readiness and school success
Provides a comprehensive and coordinated program of Early Childhood Education, Adult Basic Education, ESL, GED Prep, Family Literacy Skills Training, Job Coaching, Case Management, Interactive Child-Family Literacy Skills Training, and Parent Education. Available to low income families with children between the ages of 0-8 years in the towns of Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Narragansett, New Shoreham, Richmond, South Kingstown and West Greenwich.
